AusMusic T-Shirt Day is returning and this year’s a big one

AusMusic T Shirt Day

Wear your favourite AusMusic T-Shirt on Friday 19 November or buy a brand new one and support Aussie musicians doing it tough.

Do you love Australian music? And care about the people who create it? Operating in an industry that focuses a lot of investment on touring and less so on album sales, and with streaming the dominant choice for many consuming music, musicians are particularly vulnerable and almost two years into this pandemic, it hasn’t gotten any easier for our beloved artists.

As the music industry continues to suffer blow after blow as tours continue to get postponed and festivals cancelled, Ausmusic T-Shirt Day is back this November to raise much-needed funds for music workers in crisis due to the devastating impacts of COVID-19 and other issues which may prevent them from working.

What you need to know

  • Ausmusic T-Shirt Day is back this November
  • Returning on Friday, November 19, music lovers around Australia are being asked to buy an Ausmusic T-Shirt, fundraise in a team or donate individually to Support Act
  •  The day aims to raise the funds needed to continue providing support services to music workers in crisis

Stay up to date with what’s happening in Melbourne here.

Over the past 18 months, Support Act has committed $22.8 million in the form of 10,000 crisis relief grants to music and live performing arts workers in need, and provided mental health and wellbeing support to thousands through its mental health programs and Wellbeing Helpline.

Spearheaded by Support Act with support from ARIA, triple j, Double J and the ABC, Ausmusic T-Shirt Day has long been known as a massive nation-wide celebration of Australian music that reminds us how lucky we are to have such a strong local music scene, with many highly talented and successful artists across all genres of music. And while that’s all still true, it’s never been more important to back our local musicians – and the easiest way to do that is through merchandise sales, one of the most immediate ways of getting money into the pockets of your favourite artists, so that they can keep making the music you love!

Returning on Friday, November 19, music lovers around Australia are being asked to buy an Ausmusic T-Shirt, fundraise in a team or donate individually to Support Act. Participants are asked to share content of themselves participating in Ausmusic T-Shirt Day across their favourite social media platforms using the #ausmusictshirtday and tagging Support Act, triple j and ARIA, essentially giving a shout-out to your favourite musicians.

You can purchase a new tee from Aussie merch stores like Sound Merch, Warner Music Australia, Love Police ATM, Artist First and Merch Fan, among others, while a number of artists have also created this year’s range of limited edition Premium T-Shirts including G-lip, Keith Urban, Genesis Owusu, Tones and I, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Lime Cordiale, Paul Kelly, Powderfinger, Spacey Jane, and Tame Impala which are available for $50 each and can be ordered until Friday, November 5.

And if you’re not in a position to buy a new tee, you can still show your support by reppin’ some old merch.

“While there is now light at the end of the COVID tunnel, thanks to the massive uptake of vaccinations across Australia, there is still a long way to go before the music industry is operating at pre-pandemic levels,” Support Act CEO, Clive Miller said.

“We know just how much the Australian community loves and misses their live music, which is why we are asking everyone with a passion for Australian music to get behind this year’s Ausmusic T-Shirt Day to help raise the funds we urgently need to continue providing our support services to music workers in crisis.”
