Working with a passionate ensemble model theatre company your role will be to ensure the professional delivery of 4 shows within our 2 season schedule and play an integral role in all other productions. Supervised by our newly appointed production/venue manager your role will be deliver shows on time, on budget working within the financial and venue restraints of the company. Resourcefulness, your own vehicle, computer literacy and impeccable communications skills, both verbal and written are a must as is the capacity to assist in set building. This position offers flexibility of hours within the requirements of a busy theatre company.
Assistant Production Management Responsibilities:
1. To be the assistant to the Venue/Production Manager of Red Stitch Actors Theatre taking an integral role in productions, and supporting the delivery of external productions and tours.
2. To oversee the delivery of four Shows over 2 seasons on time and on budget
3. Management of 4 internal and assisting the Production Manager in the 8 in-house production season and any external productions
4. Management of the Production budget for each production you are the lead on ensuring that expenditure is scrupulously tracked and budget forecasts are met. This will include frequent liaison with the Production/General Manager to monitor and track expenditure.
5. Regular meetings with Ensemble & Guest Artists/ Crew to ensure the Director, Cast, Design and Construction crew on each production are adequately supported for the entire production period: ie. from first production meeting through to first preview and opening night, after which the Stage Management & Operator Supervisor will take over technical liaison/ support.
6. Supervision of Ensemble and Guest Artists/ Crew in conjunction with resident Set & Lighting Designers and SMOS to ensure that the artistic/ professional standards and procedures of the company are observed at all times (including good communication, performance protocols and OH&S standards).
7. Vetting of proposed Guest Artists/ Crew in conjunction with resident Set & Lighting Designers to ensure that company standards in design and production are maintained as far as possible.
8. Meticulous scheduling and supervision of Bump In/ Bump Out to ensure all tasks are met with the company’s available resources.
9. Production paperwork including updating and circulating Guest Contracts, relevant technical handbooks, budget reconciliations, timelines, etc., and uploading the latter including relevant deadlines onto the company’s shared calendar to promote smooth operations overall.
Selection Criteria:
1. Demonstrated production management experience (min 2 yrs) in a technical production environment including experience in a theatre producer environment.
2. Strategic problem solving and analytical skills including creative/lateral thinking and the ability to interpret non technical requests into technical specification information and the ability to interpret technical specifications and plans and make equipment substitutions.
3. Proven project management skills and experience, including outstanding attention to detail and an ability to forward plan, integrate and manage multiple simultaneous productions and interconnected activities to strict deadlines and the ability to demonstrate crisis management skills.
4. Proven ability to demonstrate strong leadership capabilities within a challenging work environment, utilising effective communication and interpersonal skills to manage conflict and negotiate successful outcomes with stakeholders whilst maintaining a strong focus on customer service.
5. Demonstrated experience developing and managing production budgets
