Join the Asian Cinema Collective for our first screening of 2025 – with the Ang Lee classic Eat Drink Man Woman (1994)!
Eat Drink Man Woman follows the story of Chu, a retired chef who has lost his sense of taste, and his three single daughters: Jia-Jen, a Christian school teacher and dedicated eldest daughter; Jia-Chien, a high-powered executive at an airline company who has inherited her father’s love of food and skills in the kitchen; and Jia-Ning, a young college student. Each week, Chu prepares an elaborate meal at their family home, where announcements and updates are shared amongst the family and their friends.
Part of Ang Lee’s Father Knows Best trilogy (which also includes Pushing Hands (1991) and The Wedding Banquet(1993)), the films explore themes of generational and cultural clashes – often through the lens of family relationships.
A feast for the eyes (and the stomach!), Eat Drink Man Woman is a classic to be enjoyed on the big screen with the Asian Cinema Collective community!
