Applications for the Women in Music mentor program are now open

Connecting people of marginalised gender identities to industry professionals, the Women in Music program applications are now open.

An initiative of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) applications for their program dedicated to mentoring and training program aimed at empowering women in the Australian music industry is now open. Running once a year for four years, this is the second year of the program.

What you need to know

  • Applications for the Women in Music program are now open
  • Successful applicants will be matched with a mentor for a five month period
  • The program aims to connect women and non-binary people with industry professionals

The program is open to women and non-binary participants working in or aspiring to work in creative (solo artists, band members, songwriters), technical (engineers, producers, etc) and /or business roles (managers, promoters, record labels, etc) within the Australian music industry.

There have been 190 recipients of the mentorship so far. “I have thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful experience,” states Holly, a previous participant in the mentorship program. “Being selected and being able to meet and network with so many experienced, talented and professional women has been such a privilege and it is an experience I will never forget.”

“I have gained more confidence and knowledge of what is to be expected of me as a film composer,” another recipient Candice says. “I have learned invaluable techniques and strategies that I can implement immediately in my future compositions.”
