So what is it like? Well there are certainly echoes of Anthrax past on Worship Music. The tight guitar rhythms, the energy, the vocal harmonies – in fact there are a few vocal lines here that almost sound like something John Bush would have sang, which is kind of odd given that he replaced Belladonna back in the early ’90s. But Worship Music is its own beast. It has a cohesive album feel, not surprising since they had literally years to write and refine the material. Earth On Hell blasts out the kind of high-speed, blast-beat thrash fans demand. Fight ‘Em Til You Can’t may be a little reminiscent of Metallica’s Master Of Puppets but you can’t argue with thrash pedigree like this, and it sounds killer. The Devil You Know is classic up-tempo Anthrax, while things get all epic on In The End, and the set ends on a high with Revolution Screams. This is the album Anthrax had to make – after all those singer woes a ‘just okay’ album could have been a career killer. Instead it’s exactly what was needed. And it kicks arse.
