Bedroom producer and unsung hero, Shakir has influenced and shaped the sound of much of his hometown’s techno, including colleagues Derrick May and Carl Craig during the early, formative years of Detroit’s techno scene. He emerged in 1995 under the pseudonym Da Sampla, releasing a small selection of records, which have since become a rare but coveted slice of pure techno genius. On these he collaborated with Keith Tucker, a fellow Detroit producer whose musical pedigree includes Aux 88. Shakir’s style owes to electro, hip-hop and funk as much as it does to techno.
