Anime, Y2K and brutal metal: Stay Gold has an eclectic April schedule

stay gold
Words by Kosa Montieth

Spend Good Friday with goths and get trashed in the noughties.

Stay Gold has another mixed bag of entertainment for you in April. They’re keeping up the weekly Slice of Laughter Sunday sessions, regular Sugarush poppy nights (including a Chappell Roan tribute), the recurring am//pm emo night and Battle of the Bands heats, but they’re also welcoming international acts (Slovenian deathcore, anyone?), local singer-songwriter emerging talents and some very unique parties.

From anime to emo rock, metal to groove, indie pop to indie sleaze, it’s a genre-blending combo of a lineup offering something genuinely fresh in the gig calendar.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

A Slice Of Laughter

  • With various comics
  • Sunday, April 6, 13 and 20
  • Tickets here

Stay Gold is getting in on the Comedy Fest action, offering a rotating cast of characters on Sunday arvos in April. Each session sees a different group of comedy heavyweights hit the stage at the civilised hour of 3pm, letting you smash some laughs with your mates without sacrificing Monday morning functionality. Grab pizza and beers beforehand at Ollie’s (yes, they do GF and vegan) for peak Sunday vibes. Ditch that 9pm Tuesday show nonsense – this is how grown-ups do comedy.

Within Destruction

  • With Distant and Gravemind
  • Thursday, April 3
  • Tickets here

From deathcore roots to cyberised, anime-inflected brutality, Slovenian legends Within Destruction return to Australia with their futurist sound and their sixth full-length album. It’s getting hard and heavy with “aggressive entertainment”, supported by Dutch deathcore outfit Distant and local act Gravemind.
