1.

Writing about experience and events is easier than writing about things that might be less significant to you. If you can draw from meaningful experiences, usually the song will be stronger and show more character when performed, as it is personal.

2.

Analyse your lyrics, take your time making sure you are using the best words to portray what you are trying to say. Use the most efficient wording to tell your story.

3.

Remember there is no formula for writing a song, writing a song is self-expression, everyone writes differently and whether you write your lyrics, melody or chords first, there is no wrong way to do it.

4.

Phrasing is very important to keep in mind, focus on placement and rhythm of words. Doing this can make or break a song put the words in places that make the song sound catchy which further makes the listener want to listen over and over again.

5.

The most important part of song writing is to keep on doing it. As a songwriter some of your work is going to be great and some of it is going to be not so great. If you can hold the confidence and remember that not everything you write is going to be magical your writing will get better. If you keep writing and writing you can only improve.
