The ice skating rink – large enough to hold 150 people at a time- will feature on the Yarra River Terrace, will feature alongside a number of Fed Square Winter Festival events including The Light in Winter program, a camp fire, art installations, and morning meditation.
During the day, views of the city and Yarra River form a dramatic backdrop for skaters and as nightfall arrives the aptly titled River Rink into a fairyland of light and colour. On selected evenings, the rink will come to life with themes and live music.
Even if you haven’t quite got your figure-eights down but still want to join in, a 70cm high penguin or seal can help you stay upright.
If you don’t want to get onto the ice, and would rather watch from the sidelines, the River Rink Village will offer a line up of winter warmers. Think mulled wine from Federation Square’s Riverland Bar, hot waffles from Taxi Kitchen or hot toasties from Pilgrim Bar. A crew of food trucks and stalls including Mr Burger, St. ALi, Señor BBQ and Popstic ice-cream will also be on site.
