Kindred Bandroom’s a shining beacon of the west’s arts and culture scene.

Equipped with rehearsal rooms, co-working spaces, a cafe, photography studios, film studios, dance studios and (who could forget) the iconic bandroom, the creative behemoth buzzes with a special kind of energy. It’s a place where ideas form and nothing is off the table.

It all comes together on the four live performance spaces, which celebrate a diverse range of talent. From Jazz, House, Hip-Hop, Rock and everything in-between – Kindred doesn’t discriminate on genre. This month, alongside some killer shows, it’s also hosting a few massive outdoor events that’ll bring together the community from Footscray and beyond.

RHYME & GRILL Block Party

Bring your crew to this sun-drenched block party filled with reggae, dancehall and Afrobeat, plus the after-party to keep it rolling. Street-party vibes, food, good music and all the fun of a west-side celebration.

Del Boca Vista with Skomes & Dem Large

It’s free entry and doors from 2pm as Del Boca Vista joins forces with Skomes & Dem Large for an arvo of chilled beats and grooves to get you into the mood. This one will be a perfect Sunday afternoon plan for music lovers craving something different.

Every Thursday night, Flow Motion keeps the groove alive with Kindred’s very own house band. Expect a spontaneous mix of jazz, house, funk and hip hop, with rotating musos jumping in to jam. Bring your instrument, bring your mates, and dive into two-plus hours of improvised energy.

Kindred Bandroom’s Thursday afternoon gig series returns with free live music featuring a different local artist each week. This week welcomes Gwyn Ashton performing in one-man band mode, delivering a high-energy set of funky electric slide guitar, boogie and blues, complete with a full foot-operated drum kit.

DADSTOCK ’25

Get ready for a night of loud riffs, dad jokes, and heart — DADSTOCK ’25 is back and turning it up to 11! Local dads in bands will be shredding their way through the evening, raising funds and awareness for men’s mental health in partnership with Movember. 

Del Boca Vista with Gemini, DJ Schmeejay & AKA Zeb

The Del Boca Vista summer sessions are back, baby! Every Sunday, the Kindred deck transforms into a Florida-themed, palm-tree-lined paradise with DJs spinning moovers and groovers all arvo. This week’s lineup features Gemini, DJ Schmeejay and AKA Zeb. Expect funky brews, cheap spritzes, and that easy-breezy Footscray sunshine vibe.

Kindred’s beloved Thursday Arvo Gig Series keeps rolling with the Alison Ferrier Duo taking centre stage. London-born, Melbourne-based Ferrier brings a rich mix of blues, country, folk and rock, all wrapped up in heartfelt songwriting and effortless guitar work. Joined by Alics Gate-Eastley on bass and harmonies, this free gig is the perfect midday escape.

Krank-It Festival 2025

Get ready to turn it all the way up, because Krank-It Festival is a full-throttle celebration of Melbourne’s hard and heavy live music scene. In true Ausmusic Month spirit, the lineup is stacked with local legends like Frankenbok, All Hope Remains, YNOT, Invernäl, The Half Pints, Desert Kingdom, ADHD, and plenty more. Hosted by Cranky Pants the Alchemist, this one’s all killer, no filler.

Beloved Aussie troubadour Andrew Swift rolls into Kindred Bandroom as part of his Lucky Stars tour, celebrating the release of his fourth studio album. Prepare for a mix of heartfelt storytelling, road-worn charm, and that signature alt-country warmth that’s earned him ARIA #1s and Golden Guitars aplenty. 

Brave New World

Brave New World are back from their Japan tour and straight into Kindred’s Thursday Arvo Gig Series for a special afternoon set. Originally formed in the ’80s, this reinvigorated live band led by frontman Pete Robinson and Ian Pope on keys knows exactly how to bring the energy.

What’s that jingle-jangle on the breeze? It’s The Rebelles returning to Kindred Bandroom to slay your hearts and minds with their end-of-year spectacular, Slay-Belles! There will be girl-group harmonies, rock ‘n’ roll swagger, and a cheeky sprinkling of Christmas classics. Joining them are The Lonesome Wranglers plus DJ Eli Schoulal to keep the dance floor humming.
