In an unforgettable fusion of voices and exploration of cultures through voice, Torres Strait Islands Artistic Directors Deb Lowah Clark and Luke Captain, along with Choir Director Stella Savy, will lead a powerful ensemble of 180 singers from across Victoria. The legendary Christine Anu and her daughter Zipporah Corser-Anu will grace the stage as special guest performers, amplifying the power and beauty of this First Nations-led project exclusively at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Saturday 30 November. Anu will be performing tracks from her newly released album, ‘Waku – Minaral A Minalaya’ amongst some crowd favourites.
Together, they will bring to life the rich musical traditions of Zenadth Kes, the Torres Strait Islands in a stunning blend of songs performed in English, Meriam Mir, and Kala Lagaw Ya.
Since 1979, The Boîte has actively supported artists from diverse communities and promoted cultural understanding through the presentation of live music. Our work has enriched and broadened Melbourne’s live music landscape with truly representative programming, and continues to challenge assumptions around the boundaries of genre, culture and tradition.
