Nite Jewel is coming to town. This Friday October 20, the Los Angeles electro-R&B artist will be headlining NGV Friday Nights alongside a DJ set by DJ Planéte at NGV International. Since the year of 2008, Nite Jewel has been striving among the lo-fi, synth-based community in LA as she started uploading her killer tunes on her MySpace profile. Her eccentric approach on shoegaze and avant-garde sounds has successfully pulled luck on her side. One of her very first singles ‘Suburbia’was selected to be employed in Noah Baumbach’s 2010 comedy-drama film Greenberg. In 2013, her tune ‘Nowhere To Go’was featured in the action-adventure video game Grand Theft Auto V. In 2012 the pop-funk legend was signed to one of the most successful American independent record labels Secretly Canadian – cool bands such as Whitney, Cherry Glazerr and even the great Japanese artist and peace activist Yoko Ono released her musical output through the label. As per DJ Planéte, he’s considered as one of Australian electronic music’s best-kept secrets. You may have never heard of him but the Melbourne’s very own producer and musician has been creating super hypnotic house music since the start of his career in 2011. Head to ngv.vic.gov.au/program/ngv-Friday-nights-nite-jewel for more information and to purchase tickets. The show goes down from 6pm.

Attention to all of you hip hop lovers. Have you ever heard of Ivan Ooze? Ooze is a 25-year-old rapper from Melbourne whose mixtape by the name of The Social Alien became a low-key internet sensation back in 2014. Anyway, this Sunday October 22, Ooze will be playing Wrangler Studios with a special guest to be announced soon. Earlier this year he released another part of his acclaimed mixtape The Social Alien 2: Memoirs of the Milky Way featuring 19 bangers of intricate rhymes and authentic fast flow. Head to Ooze’s facebook profile facebook.com/ivanuzii for more information on The Social Alien 2 Tour.

Metalcore fans, this one’s for you. Polaris are coming to Phoenix Youth Centre this Sunday for their The Remedy Australian Tour. Across the five years they’ve been on this journey together, they’ve released two critically acclaimed EPs. Their 2016 EP The Guilt & The Grief debuted at #34 on the ARIA album charts and #2 on the AIR chats. Since then, the Sydney lads have consistently been hitting the road, selling out most of their headline tour. Their track ‘Unfamiliar’received an excellent, four-star review from triple j presenter Dom Alessio. This time around, the boys are bringing Belle Haven, Deadlights and Daybreak along for the ride. Tickets are still on sale and selling fast, head to polarisaus.oztix.com.au to get them, they’re less than 20 bucks.

I’ve got an exclusive announcement for a very special all-ages event (ssshh, you’re probably one of the first ones to know); triple j unearthed, Parliament of Victoria, The Push and Melbourne Music Week proudly present the 2017 Live at the Steps! After last year’s successful free event with an incredible lineup with the like of Brisbane’s indie-pop legends The Jungle Giants, 2016 triple j’s Unearthed High winner Gretta Ray and 2015 National Indigenous Music Awards’ new talent of the year winner, Philly, this year Live at the Steps is making a comeback with an even more incredible lineup. Skegss, Tired Lion, Mallrat and Baker Boy will all be playing. Live at the Steps goes down on Friday November 17 at the Parliament steps from 5pm. If you’re keen just come down, it’s totally free and it’s going to be the best. See you all there.
