All Ages: GL are coming to NGV, and see Between You & Me and Chasing Velvet live

Another week, another amazing act on the lineup for NGV Friday Nights. On Friday September 29, Melbourne’s very own GL will be taking over NGV International. GL are an electronic duo with a speciality for making danceable tunes for those who are into ‘80s dance music with a modern-day edge. If you think you were born in the wrong era, just give this pair a listen. It’s highly recommended that you check out their 2014 single Won’t You See from their debut EP Love Hexagon; you won’t get over the funk. Plus, not only do their tunes rely on Ella Thompson’s hypnotic vocals, the atmospheric and vibrant sounds of beatmaker Graeme Pogson’s instrumentations fill all the gaps. They’ve played festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Laneway and Meredith Music Festival. In 2015, they had the opportunity to tour with all round legend, Nick Murphy AKA Chet Faker for his national sold out tour. Head to ngv.vic.gov.au for more information, if you’re keen to spend your Friday with the fresh cosmic-funk act GL. Ohh, one more thing if you think one classic disco act is not enough for your Friday night, don’t worry NGV will continue the night with a DJ set from DJ Jaala. Get pumped.

On the same night, we’ve also got five-piece Melbourne pop-punk band Between You & Me taking over Mount Waverley Community Centre. Hopeless Records’ very own have recently released a new single Overthinking. The single showcases aggressive-yet-catchy vocal deliveries and instrumentations alongside romantic lyrics. Who wouldn’t love that? Like many other pop-punk bands, Between You & Me see Blink-182 as their inspiration. In a recent interview with Alternative Press, if they could go on tour with anyone, it would be the trio. This time around, the boys are bringing Atticus Street, Tortuga and One Day Kings along. Head to Between You & Me facebook page for more information.

This Saturday September 30, Brisbane pop-rock band Chasing Velvet are celebrating the release of their latest EP Wings at Wrangler Studios. Vocalist Amira Talbot, guitarist Luci Scott and drummer Naomi Grashuis are already making a name on the international music scene, possibly due to their quirky, loveable and energetic style of music. Those Who Dream, Joy In Motion and Honest Lives will be on support duties. Entry is $18.40. When else can you experience four top-notch acts on the same day for that price? Head to Chasing Velvet’s facebook page for further information.
