All Ages

Keep Sunday April 9 free for Good Morning + Friends at The Thornbury Bowls Club. After recently teaming up with Bedroom Suck Records, the effortless pop pals Good Morning are throwing an all ages do with Emlyn Johnson, Hearing, Dianas and Mio to celebrate the re-release of their first two eps on glorious 7” vinyl. It’s not just a good afternoon of tunes because there is also a BBQ and maybe even live magic.

Also on Sunday, over in easy, breezy Port Melbourne is the sixth annual Piers Festival at the Princes Pier and for its sixth birthday, Multicultural Arts Victoria has a lot of stuff planned. Think about a carnival, because this year’s Piers Festival is a cultural carousal with a cyclonic mix of live music, poetry/weaving/craft workshops, martial art displays, Easter egg decorating and even more cool activities and exhibits. Get caught in a warm wash of performances from musicians like Joe Camilleri & The Black Sorrows, The Core-Tet, Mojo Juju & the Samoan Choir and swept up in the Social Studio Fashion Show or simply soak in the vibes and sea air. You can find a full list of fun things on Multicultural Arts’ website.

That’s not all that’s on this Sunday, there’s also a huge all ages show on down near the pier in Frankston. Gargantuan Geelong hardcore crew Rust Proof are swinging their high density riffs right into the front of Singing Bird Studios. Supporting the demolition are dynamic guests Party Vibez, Overpower, Cast Down and Brainfreeze who are shaking the building all afternoon from 1:30pm.

Sunday isn’t the only great fun gig day this week though, because on Friday April 7 you can feel really cool at a show in a record store at Polyester Records. If you dance down to the Fitzroy shop front between 6pm and 7pm, you can catch a glimpse of the eminent songwriter Biscotti as she unveils songs from her debut album and weaves a spell for one quick evening. It doesn’t even cost anything you can just walk right up and fall into it.
