The seductively decadent and wonderfully delightful Ali McGregor is set to play host to the most delicious series of variety nights at this year’s Comedy Festival. Promising a show laden with vaudeville, cabaret, circus and comedy, Ali McGregor’s Late-Nite Variety-Nite Night warrants a big red ‘must see’ circle around it on your comedy festival calendar.

“I love hosting the variety night. The old spice of life saying is definitely true. The variety night holds a special place in my heart because I really love a show that lets me do a lot of different things, but also lets me watch a lot of different things. As an audience member I like to watch a lot of different types of things, and I love sitting on stage and getting comedy one minute, and somebody doing burlesque the next, or hula hooping, or singing cabaret. It keeps me really entertained, and I find it more enjoyable than going to a comedy where it’s just raw stand up comics. It keeps me really interested and hopefully it does to my audience as well.”

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival holds a very special place in the lovely Ms. McGregor’s heart. “It’s my hometown, I feel very patriotic about Melbourne, and I do feel that whenever I come back here my creative juices get flowing, there’s a huge amount of passionately created performance in this city. So many people are open to things.”

“I feel very strongly about the Spiegeltent, it was the venue that brought me over from opera and theatre and seduced me into this netherworld of cabaret and vaudeville and variety. It has a very special place in my heart. So for that reason, and the fact that we’re only doing eight shows, it’s going to be a really special year. I’m only booking acts that are gold.”

“We have aerials and a little bit more circus happening. It’ll be pretty fabulous. They called Edinburgh this year, “The Year Of Cabaret,” and I think it’s going to be cabaret’s year this year at the comedy festival.”

Ali McGregor performs her Late-Nite Variety-Nite Night at the world famous Spiegeltent Fridays and Saturdays only from April 1 until April 23 from 11.15pm. Tickets are $18-$25 and available through Ticketmaster online and 1300 660 013, at The Famous Speigeltent at The Arts Centre on 1300 182 183, the artscentre.com.au or at the door.
