At the 2024 AIR Awards show last week, the organisation announced a brand new partnership that's set to amp up Adelaide's status as an Australian music hot spot.

Last week, the Australian Independent Record Labels Association held this year’s AIR Awards, a celebration of the country’s top indie musical talent as well as its annual Indie-Con Australia Conference in Adelaide.

As well as the announcements of the winners, which included artists like Royel Otis, Private Function, Dan Sultan, RVG and more, the night also featured a huge announcement.

The South Australian Government through its Music Development office confirmed continued funding for AIR to hold its Awards and Indie-Con Australia conference in Adelaide and the exciting news that AIR will exclusively host A2IM’s Australian Edition of Indie-Week conference in conjunction with its events from 2025.

Maria Amato AIR CEO said “ We are grateful to the South Australian Government through its Music Development Office for their continued support. This will enable us to  host the world’s largest independent music conference, A2IM’s Indie Week as part of AIR’s events and expand our ability to facilitate global connections.”

“We are honored and excited to bring A2IM Indie Week’s first-ever international event to Adelaide, Australia’s UNESCO designated City of Music,” says Lisa Hresko, the general manager of A2IM.

“A2IM extends our heartfelt thanks to AIR and The South Australian Government through its Music Development office for this incredible opportunity. This event promises to be a global hub for independent music, fostering a dynamic community of industry leaders and sharing future-shaping ideas that will propel music forward.”

Founded by independents and created for independents, A2IM indie week brings labels, distributors, agencies and other industry folk together to network and discuss the most important topics in music.

In the past, the program has featured workshops and keynote speakers focused on topics including AI, funding, planning releases, afrobeat markets, selling vinyl, touring, merch and more.

The A2IM and AIR partnership will give Australian audiences the chance to dive deep into this trove of knowledge and help build a fully-fledged independent music career.

More information on the upcoming conference is set to be revealed soon, so to stay up to date, keep your eyes on the AIR website and subscribe to their newsletter here. Watch highlights of the 2024 AIR Awards here
