Adam Rudegeair takes The Bowie Project to Kew’s intimate performance space Kew Court House.
Rudegeair’s five-piece jazz ensemble is an instrumental-only perspective on the Bowie catalogue, including fan favourites and deep-cuts.
Rudegeair explains that he takes a no-lyrics approach because the presence of Bowie in the music is a distraction from how good Bowie’s composing is. “Without his vocals, lyrics and persona, Bowie fans can sink deep into the brilliance of the compositions” Adam Rudegeair.
The surprising arrangements are infused with a range of stylistic influences including New Orleans piano style, post-bop jazz and 70s synth funk.
Rudegeair’s jazz improvisations navigate new harmonic pathways within Bowie’s classics. He begins with acoustics and builds to electric and energetic arrangements with recognisable hooks.
