In an effort to ‘promote the emerging, low-fi, DIY performative-based trend in contemporary practice in Australia which is often underrepresented in conventional international exhibition presentations’ ACCA is ignoring ‘invitations’ and instead orchestrating a ‘pop-up’ programme at various points during the Vernissage.
Three artists – Laresa Kosloff, Anastasia Klose and Stuart Ringholt – will use their performance-based activities to surprise and provoke the Vernissage crowd.
ACCA plans to capture key moments on their website and blog, which is kept by ACCA’s Artistic Director Juliana Engberg and Associate Curator Charlotte Day.
Kudos to them for ‘giving it a go’ but we just hope that their performance art doesn’t come across as naff, outdated and unwelcome at this extremely important event. That said, any publicity is good publicity, right? And ACCA will surely make some of the news with this kind of stunt, which should give an Australian Gallery a bit of a mention on the high-class international art circuit.
