Abbotsford Convent will play host to a huge selection of events next month, with its Open Spaces program set to celebrate the people, spaces and places of the historic, communal site. The grounds will become a bustling hub of arts, music, food and everything in between for one weekend next month as part of the enormous event.

Open Spaces will begin with a special Welcome To Country as part of Ngulu-nganjin, a two-part project highlighting Wurundjeri music, language and culture. Led by Wurundjeri artist Mandy Nicholson and Yorta Yorta/Dja Dja Wurrung musician and actor Lou Bennett, Ngulu-nganjin will feature dance, workshops, face-painting and music in celebration of the culture of the land’s traditional owners.

Bringing sounds from across the world to the Abbotsford Convent, producer Joel Ma (Joelistics) has programmed an impeccable selection of talent for Open Sounds which will see the likes of MzRizk, Senegambian Jazz Band, Cool Out Sun, Systa BB, Dustin McLean and loads more acts taking to the heritage gardens across the weekend.

Open Spaces will also showcase creative works through print and design spaces which will feature independent press, zines, publishers and writers as well as ceramics, homewares, jewellery and clothing respectively. You’ll also have a chance to take an architectural or gardening tour around the site, grab some goodies from the market stalls, check out local art in one of the Convent’s studios, take part in a wellbeing session and grab something tasty without leaving the site.
