ARI offers students the chance to hone their craft by studying an Advanced Diploma of Sound Production. With guidance from a talented array of staff members and special lectures taught by visiting industry professionals, the course is perfect for anyone wanting to learn how to become as legendary as Abbey Road itself.
For those wanting to hear what student life at ARI is like, there’s no better group to hear from than the students themselves. The Open Day’s Student Panel features four of ARI’s current students at varying stages of their Advanced Diploma to talk about their experiences studying with the school.
Phoenix Manson-Pollard, Charlotte Rochecouste, Eric Kordabalos, and Rochelle Bartlett will give the audience an insight into Abbey Road Institute, from what’s involved in studying at the school to the available facilities and teaching practices.
“Being a student at ARI has led me to countless opportunities,” says Phoenix Manson-Pollard, a producer specialising in the Melbourne underground hip hop scene. “The contacts I’ve made at Abbey Road through talking to other students and mentors have proven to be invaluable.”
While Manson-Pollard is in his third trimester at ARI, fellow student and panel member Charlotte Rochecouste is just beginning her studies and has nothing but praise for the school’s staff. “Being taught by Lance Krive is simply a privilege due to his impressive experience. He is also really nice and accommodating making him a fantastic teacher.”
Tutor Lance Krive has worked as an engineer for internationally successful artists including Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Nicks. His experience is indicative of the knowledge ARI staff are able to pass onto their students, many of whom have gone on to achieve career success.
One such alumni is Alex Braithewaite, who is featuring on the Open Day’s Producer Panel. Braithewaite produces under the name Trumpdisco and has completed multiple tours of Australia, played at festivals in Canada and South Africa, and had his remix of Kanye West’s Black Skinhead played during the opening sequence of the 2014 MTV VMAs.
In 2015, Braithewaite began studying at ARI to increase his knowledge and hone his skills in sound production. “Studying at Abbey Road Institute has enabled me to advance far more than just my aptitude in music,” says Braithewaite. “I now have a much greater grasp of what being a part of the music industry entails.”
Braithewaite joins Mitch Cairns and Chris Arnott on the Producer’s Panel, both of whom have also experienced enormous success in their careers with both producers awarded ARIAs for their work.
The panel are set to discuss branding, online connectivity, and the necessary attributes of a producer, while also making time to take a look at the state of the Australian music industry today and share their advice with ARI’s lucky audience.
If all of this isn’t enough for you, ARI are rounding off their Open Day with a chance to win a mentorship prize pack with Chris Arnott himself. The prize includes one-on-one mentoring session with Arnott at Melbourne’s Abbey Road Institute with the session seeing the winner receive feedback from Arnott on their tracks, hear his advice on a career in the industry, and leave with the added bonus of six months of follow-up email support from Arnott.
