There’s no predicting what’ll happen inside the Prince Bandroom.
The St Kilda institution is a chameleon of a room. One night it’s filled with smoke and strobe, a pulsating all-night club, and the next, punters are sporting denim jackets and headbands in a throwback party for the ages.
When the bandroom kicked open its doors in 1950, no one expected it to become such a legendary part of Melbourne’s live music scene. But look where it is now! The stage has welcomed everyone from Midnight Oil to Prince, from Billie Eilish to Silverchair.
A whopping 75 years later, it’s still one of our favourite places to dance ourselves silly while watching our favourite bands (as long as we’re not stuck behind that pesky pillar – you know what we’re talking about).
So, what’s the Prince dishing out this month then? Synth punk dance parties, Latin rhythms, Bollywood boogies… You might as well just keep on reading.
