It plays Rochford Wines in the Yarra Valley on Sunday April 5, headlined by The Black Keys, who will be joined by Spiderbait, Band Of Skulls and Bad//Dreems.
Rolling Green will also be staged in the Hunter Valley in the NSW the weekend after with the same lineup.
A Day On The Green’s founders Michael and Anthea Newton set up the winery shows 13 years ago. The idea of older music fans enjoying music of their vintage in a laid back picturesque location rather than in smoky bars caught on. Acts as Elvis Costello, Leonard Cohen, Hunters & Collectors, the Hoodoo Gurus, John Mellencamp, Crowded House, Simple Minds and Neil Young invariably include the winery shows in addition to their arena dates.
The series has played 350 shows to 2 million, and has also crossed over to New Zealand where it plays wineries in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
The Newtons have been thinking about a spin-off for younger crowds for some time but were waiting for the right act to launch Rolling Green.
“A Day On The Green has found its place but there is no reason younger audiences should not see bands they want to see in the beautiful environments that have made A Day On The Green such an established event for an older crowd,” Michael Newton pointed out. “The Black Keys is the perfect band to launch Rolling Green.”
