A Berlin DJ, rock ‘n’ roll royalty and xylophone chaos: What’s on at the Northcote Social Club

Keep yourself busy for the next few weeks with a diverse array of fresh and eclectic acts hosted by the Northcote Social Club.

With a delicious food menu, a great range of drinks and a solid roster of entertainment, it’s no wonder the Northcote Social Club has such a loyal following.

Int he coming week, the venue has booked a stellar lineup. From one of Geelong’s finest solo rock musicians to a renowned DJ from Berlin, it’s a mishmash of mayhem that is sure to keep you entertained this Autumn!

Adalita

  • Saturday, 23 March
  • With JP Shilo and Amaya Laucirica

Recent Music Victoria Awards Nominee and Aussie rock ‘n’ roll icon Adalita and her band will be taking the stage to celebrate the release of her newest album INLAND. Joining her as special guests will be local artists JP Shilo and Amaya Laucirica.

Autumn Equinox

  • Thursday, 28 March
  • Martha van Straaten with Moontide, Otorongo B2B and Cuerpo Negro

The Northcote Social Club will be launching an event to celebrate the Autumn Equinox. Presented by The ISU TAKI collective, the event will feature the joyous Berlin DJ Martha Van Stratten supported by local electronic whizz Moontide. DJs including Otorongo B2B and Cuerpo Negro will help you get even more pumped up for a diverse and eclectic musical experience.

Mount Kujo

  • Friday, 29 March
  • With Womabatuque and G Tano

Prepare for a fusion of psychedelic jazz, funk, Latin, and afro-beat as Mount Kujo’s take to the stage ahead of the release of their long-awaited sophomore album. Recorded by Deep Sheth at the legendary Sing Sing Studios,  the band will introduce a new sound that reflects their growth, breaking barriers on the use of outboard equipment and synthesizers. They will be supported by Samba performers Wombatuque and Latin funk group G Tano.

Mess Esque

  • With Jess Ribeiro

Mess Esque is the brainchild of Dirty3’s Mick Turner and Brisbane-based vocalist Helen Franzmann (aka McKisco). Forming remotely across Naarm and Meanjin during COVID lockdowns, the duo released two albums in 2022 to much acclaim. This led them to tour Australia, the USA and Europe and even being invited to play at Wilco’s Solid Sound festival in the USA. Accompanying them will be award-winning singer-songwriter Jess Ribeiro.

Sex On Toast

  • With Special Guests

Wreaking havoc on the stage with their catchy melodies and high-level energy is Sex On Toast. The nine-piece ensemble will be bringing their latest single, Another One, which will harness the lively, full-band rush and create a wonderful sum of sonics, sweat and tears that will make you see the beauty in chaos. With the track being introduced this April, it will be the last single before the much-anticipated album Pegasus, due for release in Spring 2024.

Stumps

  • Saturday, 6 April
  • With the Tullamarines

Sydney-based indie trio Stumps will be featuring as part of a national tour for their sophomore album Arcadia. Since their genesis in 2017, the band has captured the hearts of many fans through headline shows, festival slots and support acts for the likes of Ball Park Music, The Temper Trap, and Tyne-James Organ.

The band will take you on a journey through the different musical spheres of indie, dance, pop, and rock. Alongside them, The Tullamarines will be in charge of the support act bringing a distinct warm and friendly sound they like to describe as “cosy pop”.

Josh Owen

  • Sunday, 7 April
  • With Nick Barker

Best known for his role as guitarist with the James Reyne band, Josh Owen forged his path in 2024 starting with the release of his newest album As The Night Falls. Josh will be adding more fire to the momentum of his recent releases, by launching his new single Hold Your Breath on the Sunday afternoon of April 7. He will be accompanied by local singer-songwriter and guitarist Nick Barker.

Amaru Tribe 

  • Friday, 12 April
  • With Housewife Choice, Gabzak (Syd) and ISU TAKI DJ Collective

Latin electronic act Amaru Tribe will be joining the party with the launch of their new single AguaMar which will act as a precursor to their upcoming album Golden Roots.

The event will act as a fundraiser for the album and will feature guest performances by Housewife Choice, Gabzak (Sydney), as well as ISU TAKI DJs Julia Towers and Otorongo (Brisbane).  Altogether, you can expect a tantalizing experience that offers an extensive mix of roots, reggae, dancehall, and alternative electronic music.
