There’s a brand new boyband about to take over Bergy Bandroom
Grab your friends and clear your calendar, because this pop act isn’t messing around. Aussie boyband Overnight are gearing up to hit the road on their debut headline tour, Don’t Think Twice.
The tour celebrates the release of the group’s first EP of the same name, and it’s shaping up to be a proper introduction for a band that’s built a loyal following fast.
Overnight have earned a reputation for tight harmonies, sharp choreography and the kind of stage presence that’s hard to fake, and Don’t Think Twice will see them bring all of that straight to fans across the country.
The run kicks off close to home before heading to Melbourne, with support from Leigh Esposito and Bite My Tongue rounding out the bill. Expect sing-along hooks, plenty of energy and a room full of people who already know every word.

Melbourne alt-country artist Rhys Thompson is set to bring his full band to Lulie Tavern on October 30, with support acts to be announced imminently. Best of all – entry is free!
Following the release of single What They’ll Be (receiving airplay across ABC Country, Tower of Country, Grass Roots, Triple J Unearthed Radio and community radio stations across the country), Thompson is continuing a run of live shows across Melbourne with a night of expansive alt-country, roots and Americana-inspired songwriting.
Thompson writes with a reflective, quietly searching voice — balancing the familiar with the unknown. This year, Melbourne’s iconic Women’s Circus celebrates their 35th anniversary with Murmuration, a spectacular new work devised and performed by a 60-strong ensemble of Women’s Circus members, directed by award-winning performance maker Christy Flaws.
Featuring performers aged from 19 to 77, this exciting new offering from the organisation is inspired by the spectacle of thousands of wild birds moving together as one body. A Murmuration. Flocking together for safety, warmth, and to share information, it truly is one of nature’s great displays. The perfect image for a community that has spent 35 years moving and growing together.
With an intergenerational ensemble on the stage, this epic production draws on a vast array of inspiring, shared memories to tell the story of the Women’s Circus community. Created by the entire ensemble, under the expert guidance of director Christy Flaws, this is a community telling its own story, in its own words, with its own bodies, featuring live music and soundscapes which have been developed in collaboration with the cast. Since 1991, Women’s Circus has grown from a safe space for survivors into a national leader in social circus.
Murmuration is a celebration of memories and connection from three and a half decades of bold, brave, creative people using their bodies to do extraordinary things together. The Teskey Brothers go back to their roots for Melbourne International Jazz Festival
Nestled amongst the swathes of bushland in country Victoria, Sam Teskey sits in the recording studio he built with his own hands, the early morning sunlight beaming onto the right side of his face.
The sun has been streaming down on the careers of The Teskey Brothers for the last ten years.
The boys from Warrandyte who became an international success have built a legacy of authenticity and grit, topped with the sweet honey of their bluesy, soul sound.
Ten years after the release of the album that catapulted them to the top of the charts, The Teskey Brothers are returning to their roots with a dedication to their first album, Half Mile Harvest, at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival this October.

October 16 will officially open two weeks of music, creativity and a celebration of artists from around the world.
Dee Dee Bridgewater, Mandisi Dyantyis and the sound of New Orleans themselves, Rebirth Brass Band, will be taking the stage over the two weeks of the festival.
Headlining the opening night at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, The Teskey Brothers will be setting the standard for exactly what kind of music Melbourne has to offer.
The stage will be warmed up by Emily Wurramarra and the legendary Fred Wesley & The New JBs. Trombonist Fred Wesley is funk royalty.
From his time in George Clinton’s Parliament-Funkadelic and as James Brown’s musical director, the man behind the defining hours of funk will be showing Melbourne exactly how to have a good time, setting the crowd on fire for The Teskey Brothers.
When Beat asked Sam about treading the same boards as Fred Wesley, he shook his head in disbelief and laughed.
“How unbelievably awesome is that?” Sam said.
“When I was 14 and Josh was about 16, we went into the city and saw Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, James Brown and Wilson Pickett. It was pretty special, a teeth-cutting performance to witness, I think.”
It’s been ten years since The Teskey Brothers released their first album, Half Mile Harvest. It was written, recorded, and mixed by the brothers themselves.

“I’m right into the sound side of things,” Sam said. “That’s how the original record came about — it was constant obsession with gear.”
“It all seemed to kick off for us when I bought this big old tape machine from Jimmy Barnes. It’s a 24-track Studer A800. It’s a beast of a machine, and we’re still figuring out how to wield it,” Sam laughed.
The 24-track Studer A800 set-up was also used to record on tape by legends like Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty and Jeff Buckley.
“We had no foresight for it to go this far. It’s crazy. We were just trying out this new machine and all the bits of gear I had been collecting, and thought, ‘Ah, well, we’d better put an album together,’ thinking we’d just sell a minimum amount of CDs or something.
“We did it all to tape, all analogue. That made us realise we should do due diligence on the analogue recording and put it onto vinyl. We got the minimum pressing, as we thought it would just be for us.
“Recording to tape has an aesthetic and a sound, but the thing I love about it — it may be how my brain works — is the decision elimination. It’s so in the moment, you know? When you have the band in the room, you can capture or commit to the sounds there and then in the room.”
They released Pain and Misery, the third track on the album, as a single. Before they knew it, the local record store had been cleaned out, and the duo were restocking the shelves with Half Mile Harvest.
Half Mile Harvest and its consequent albums have connected with audiences across the world. The authenticity of the music, captured on tape, and the rich rawness speak to something deep within us all.
“We’re all human. We all struggle. With the music, we’re always looking at how we have a connection to pain in our own way, and expressing that through our music. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been or what you’ve gone through. We are all human.”
“There’s so much of the world to play and explore, and we always seem to put Australia at the end of the tour, as we’ve had time to refine and get the show into a great spot.
“This one in particular feels like we’re giving the Aussies something that we haven’t done in so many years, and this time we’re putting them first, which doesn’t happen often. It’s going to be uniquely Australian, reliving this album.”
Preparing for their performance for MIJF, the band has been digging back into all the old tunes.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” Sam said. “It’s been a bit of a progression for us over the last ten years. It doesn’t feel like we’ve really stopped, but we’re still chugging along.”
The band has been finding time to return to their roots in preparation for the festival’s opening, between recording their new record, set to hit your ears next year.
“When we did Half Mile Harvest, we had all the time in the world at that point. Getting back into making a record, we’re giving it the time it actually needs,” Sam said.
Their creativity couldn’t be more primed for opening the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, fuelled by ten years of artistry, authenticity and passion.

Garage rock legends The Stems headline the Corner Hotel’s 30th birthday bash
Dust off the paisley: The Stems are storming the Corner Hotel on 3 October to help the venue turn 30.
Together since 1983 and led by Dom Mariani, The Stems built their name on a mix of ’60s garage punk, fuzzed-out guitars and power pop hooks that have flatly refused to age. Four decades on, the racket still lands as hard as it ever did.

They quickly became one of the defining acts of Australian independent rock, mentioned in the same breath as the Hoodoo Gurus and the Sunnyboys. Their 1987 debut At First Sight, Violets Are Blue won acclaim at home and abroad, and still turns up on lists of the finest Australian albums going around.
That influence still ripples through the country’s scrappier corners, and the band’s name carries real weight with anyone raised on the great Australian bands of the ’80s.
Since getting the band back together in the early 2000s, The Stems have kept their live show as fierce as ever, and they won’t be shouldering this one alone. Along for the ride are the Johnnys, Heir To The Squandered Millions, Benny J Ward and Bagful of Beez. It’s a bill built for scuzzy, good-time rock and roll.
The gig sits inside the Corner Hotel’s 30th birthday program, a lengthy run of shows marking three decades of the Richmond venue backing big names and first-timers alike. Ushering back a bunch routinely tagged as garage rock royalty is a neat way to blow out the candles.
Presented alongside 3RRR and Young Henrys, the Cheersquad Records party has plenty of local muscle behind it. It all kicks off on 3 October, and with entry kept strictly 18-and-over, expect a loud, sweaty one in the bandroom. It’s a fitting return for a band that has torn up this stage before.

Oz Kink Fest 2026
Billed as Australia’s premier festival of fetish, freedom and expression, Oz Kink Fest 2026 runs from 8 to 18 October across a clutch of inner-city Melbourne venues. The box office is open, and there’s plenty packed into the 10 days beyond a single headline night.
The run takes in launch parties, a sprawling expo, a fashion runway, workshops and a couple of the festival’s best-known club nights. Here’s how the diary shapes up.

The Fetish Expo is the festival’s daytime centrepiece on 10 October, a high-traffic floor of stalls, products and curiosities. Its fashion show hands the runway to bold design and strong concepts from across the community, with the catwalk locked in for 4pm.
After dark, the marquee club nights do the heavy lifting. Hellfire Resurrection takes over Chasers Nightclub in South Yarra on 16 October behind a strict fetish dress code, then Klub Kunst keeps things moving on 17 October as the festival heads into its final weekend.
Around those, the program runs to an opening launch party, the more low-key Oz Kink Fest Munch, guest presenter workshops through the middle stretch and weekend intensives to round it all out. Expressions of interest are open too, with spots going for performers, fashion designers, workshop presenters and Fetish Expo stallholders.

Vittorio Angelone just added a third Melbourne show after selling out
Vittorio Angelone reckons he’s not a comedian, yet he’s sold out his entire Australian tour and just added more shows.
After the original run vanished off the shelves, the comedian has stacked extra dates on top across the country, and Melbourne punters get a third shot at Vittorio Angelone with a freshly added night at the Capitol Theatre on 28 November, sitting alongside his two already-gone shows on 26 and 27 November.
The Irish-Italian performer moved to London to train as a classical musician before swerving into stand-up, and he’s climbed quickly since, with clips, podcasts and sketches pulling more than 50 million views online and a following that keeps snowballing.

You Can’t Say Nothing Any More is his newest hour, running about 90 minutes with no interval. It follows earlier touring shows that took him around the UK, Ireland and Europe, with the current run marking his first proper lap of the southern hemisphere. The whole thing rides on a cheeky premise, with Angelone still flatly denying he has anything to do with stand-up comedy at all.
Away from the stage, Angelone co-hosts the podcast Mike & Vittorio’s Guide to Parenting with Mike Rice and co-created Fin vs The Internet. He broke through with a sell-out debut at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe, picking up a Best Newcomer nomination at the Dave Comedy Awards, and has since supported Russell Howard, Jason Manford and Michael Che on the road.
With the first wave of tickets gone, the promoter has tacked on late shows and additional dates in most cities, so the newly released seats are the last remaining way in. The tour opens in Auckland on 18 November before working through the east coast and finishing with two nights in Perth in early December. Anyone chasing the Melbourne dates should move quickly, given how fast the first shows disappeared.
