Halloween at Freddie Wimpole’s has never been a quiet affair.
Now in its 11th iteration, the St Kilda local is bringing back its annual Halloween party on Saturday, 31 October, and this year Freddie’s is running away with the circus. The Carnivale theme is taking over the Fitzroy Street pub from midday through to 3am.
Expect Freddie’s usual brand of organised chaos, only this time with a big-top makeover, carnival concessions, live music, DJs, prizes and plenty happening behind the bar.
A concession stand and popcorn machine will add to the big-top atmosphere, while the bar’s 14 dedicated craft beer taps will be joined by a special Halloween release from local brewery Hop Nation, alongside Halloween cocktail and shot specials for the night. From 6pm, Mixed Tape will take over with live music before DJ George carries the night through into the early hours.
And considering this is Freddie’s, turning up in half-hearted Halloween makeup won’t cut it. Punters are encouraged to come dressed for the occasion, with prizes for Best Dressed alongside spot prizes handed out throughout the night for particularly spooky — or questionable — behaviour.
The kitchen will be running Freddie’s full menu throughout the day and night, led by its signature Original Recipe Southern Fried Chicken: crispy, golden and served by the bucket with pickles, house ranch and Frank’s Hot Sauce. The recently revamped menu also brings together the kind of fingerlickin’ food that makes sense with a cold beer, including reubens, hot dogs, burgers, tenders and plenty more.
Freddie’s Halloween Carnivale kicks off from 12pm on Saturday, 31 October, with the party carrying on until 3am. Bookings can be made ahead of time for anyone wanting to lock in a spot, but in true Freddie’s fashion, walk-ins are always welcome.
