Leon Bridges will play Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne in autumn, with 54 Ultra and Surprise Chef joining the Live at the Gardens bill.
Leon Bridges is heading back to Australia, and he’s bringing The Happiness Anytime Tour to Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.
The set lands on 6 March 2027 as part of the Live at the Gardens series, one stop on Leon Bridges’ seventh trip to Australia. He’ll take in some of the country’s prettiest outdoor spots along the way, from a Sydney Opera House Forecourt show to Brisbane’s On the Banks. The series turns the gardens’ Observatory Precinct into an inner-city open-air venue built for golden-hour sets.
Bridges is touring behind Happiness Anytime, his fifth studio album, out 25 September via Columbia Records. Produced by Jungle’s J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto, the record leans into a sunnier, dance-ready feel built around movement, groove and joy. Parts 1 and 2 are already out, mixing the warmth of his 2015 debut Coming Home with the looser spirit of his Khruangbin collaborations, and the final instalment arrives alongside the full album.

There’s more to the new era than a fresh record. Bridges has reworked his live show into Leon Bridges Presents Happiness Anytime, a production with a DJ, a horn section and three backing vocalists, taking cues from the communal buzz of classic Jamaican dance hall.
Joining him on the headline dates is 54 Ultra, the solo project of New Jersey singer, songwriter and producer JohnAnthony Rodriguez, whose synthy indie rock carries a Latin soul streak. His latest single Tell Me pairs hazy production with a bilingual, romance-tugging groove, and this year alone he’s turned up at Coachella and Lollapalooza.
For the Melbourne date, local quartet Surprise Chef round out the bill. The instrumental outfit deal in a cinematic blend of soul and funk, and their fifth album Frogs In A Pond, out 23 October, is their first for Concord Jazz, drawing on 1960s and ’70s Italian film scores.
