Melbourne's newest electronic music venue, The Underpass, is set beneath an elevated freeway in the city's inner-west, and it's already got two massive shows locked in before it's even opened its doors.
The Underpass marks a never-before-used Melbourne location for electronic music events, with organisers Novel promising a raw, industrial backdrop unlike anything else currently on offer around town.
The space will hold more than 5000 punters, making it one of the biggest additions to Melbourne’s outdoor circuit in recent memory.
Behind the venue is Novel, the promoter responsible for some of the city’s most talked-about bridge parties, including Intercell, Smalltown and A3.
Given that track record, expectations for The Underpass are already sky-high, and the lineup so far backs that up.

Two upcoming shows – BICEP and Fatboy Slim
BICEP will officially christen The Underpass across two nights this November, bringing their genre-blending electronic sound to the venue’s inaugural run.
The Belfast-born, London-based duo, made up of Andy Ferguson and Matt McBriar, have spent more than a decade blending house, techno and breakbeat into euphoric, club-ready anthems, with acclaimed albums Bicep and Isles cementing them as festival mainstays worldwide.
Night one has already sold out, so anyone hoping to catch the duo beneath the freeway will want to move fast on remaining tickets for night two, which lands right before a public holiday.

The Underpass has also confirmed a second major show, with Fatboy Slim set to bring his signature big beat sound to the venue in March 2027.
Norman Cook will play two nights at The Underpass as part of a run that also takes in Fremantle, Sydney and Brisbane, with each city getting its own unconventional setting rather than the usual club or arena circuit. Expect the big beat classics alongside newer cuts, all built on the same breakbeats-and-funk foundation that’s defined Cook’s sound for three decades.
With a fresh location, a serious capacity and two huge names already on the books, The Underpass looks set to become one of Melbourne’s go-to spots for outdoor gigs.
Whether it becomes a regular fixture on the calendar or a one-off experiment remains to be seen, but for now, all eyes are on this stretch of freeway.
