Mark Seymour, one of Australia's biggest voices is getting a very big orchestra behind him this spring.
The show, titled Mark Seymour Orchestrated: Hunters and Collectors The Hits and 40 Years of Songs & Stories, will see the frontman reimagine some of the most beloved tracks in Australian music history for one night only.
Presented by Classical Music Australia, it’s the first time Seymour has taken on an orchestral show in Melbourne, and it lands right as Human Frailty celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Across more than four decades, Seymour has built a catalogue that’s become genuinely woven into the country’s cultural fabric, first as the voice and chief songwriter of Hunters & Collectors and later through his own solo work.
This new production will pair those songs with a live orchestra and stories from Seymour himself, pulling favourites like Holy Grail, Still Hangin’ Round, When the River Runs Dry, Do You See What I See? and Throw Your Arms Around Me into a much bigger, cinematic space.
Expect a set that leans on the tracks everyone already knows by heart alongside solo arrangements chosen for how well they fit that orchestral treatment.
Seymour has described Melbourne as his home town and a genuine source of inspiration behind much of his songwriting over the years, calling it a big, dark metropolis full of power, joy and sadness in equal measure.
Bringing that catalogue to the Melbourne stage with a live orchestra behind him, he says, promises to be an immersive, powerful night for anyone who’s followed his work.
Classical Music Australia director Chris Howlett echoed that sentiment, noting how special it feels to bring together great Australian songwriting and orchestral music in the organisation’s first year.
Both Seymour’s solo material and the Hunters & Collectors back catalogue are part of the fabric of Australian music, and hearing that music surrounded by a full orchestral sound at the Palais feels, in his words, like a real celebration of Melbourne music at its best.
Whether you grew up on Hunters & Collectors or discovered Seymour through his solo years, this one’s shaping up as an intimate, entertaining night from one of the country’s most respected songwriters and performers.
