Romanie doesn't do half measures, and neither does her brand new tour.
Grab your calendars, because one of Melbourne’s most beloved songwriters is finally coming back to play the towns that made her. Naarm-based, Belgium-born artist Romanie is bringing her huge new tour, It’s Not That Funny, home to Victoria this spring.
The run celebrates Romanie’s acclaimed sophomore album It’s Not That Funny, a record that landed at number 14 on the ARIA albums chart and scored a nomination for the Australian Music Prize.
Across the album’s eleven tracks, Romanie swings between chaos and calm, anguish and hope, without ever pretending the hard stuff isn’t hard.

Here’s the bit that makes this tour properly special: the day before every single show, Romanie sits down with that city’s support act and writes a completely new song from scratch.
The pair then debut it together at the end of the support set the very next night, unrehearsed, unpolished and impossible to hear anywhere else ever again.
It’s the kind of gimmick that could go horribly wrong, but knowing Romanie’s knack for turning vulnerability into something worth sticking around for, it’s shaping up to be the whole point of the tour.
The Victorian leg wraps things up in style, with the Melbourne show at Northcote Social Club capping off the whole tour on 27 November alongside Chitra. Expect a full band set pulling from across the album, including Uh Oh, When Will We Lose Hope?, I Won’t Yell and Falling, tracks that hit just as hard live as they do on record.
Beyond the home stretch, Romanie is also heading interstate to Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide as part of the same run, but it’s these four regional and inner-north Victorian stops that feel like the real heart of the tour.
Community has always been baked into what Romanie does, and this run leans into that harder than ever. Between the freshly co-written songs, the rotating lineup of local support acts and a run of venues that range from cosy country pubs to one of Melbourne’s most loved rooms, this isn’t your standard album tour.
