The Victorian government's rego rebate closes on 31 July, with up to $372 on the table for two-car households.
If your rego rebate has been sitting in the too-hard basket, you’ve got seven days to sort it out.
The Victorian government’s rego rebate knocks 20 per cent off registration costs for light vehicles, and applications shut at midnight on 31 July. More than 3.5 million claims have already been processed – roughly half the state’s population, which suggests word has gotten around.
The amounts aren’t life-changing but they’re not nothing either. A motorist with a single car can get up to $186 back, while a household running two vehicles can claim up to $372. Two is the cap – you can put in for a maximum of two cars registered in your name.

Eligibility comes down to the payment window. Victorians need to have paid registration on a light vehicle for personal use at some point between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026. Miss that window and the discount doesn’t apply.
How you paid doesn’t matter. Motorists who cover their rego in a single annual hit and those chipping away at it in instalments both receive the full amount, so there’s no penalty for spreading the cost across the year.
The application itself runs through the Service Victoria app or the Service Victoria website, and the process takes a matter of minutes rather than an afternoon. Once the 31 July cut-off passes, the scheme closes and unclaimed money stays unclaimed.
Given the volume of applications already lodged, the remaining pool is largely people who either haven’t heard about the offer or have been putting it off. If that’s you, the window is closing fast.
