Record stores in Melbourne inspire the soundtrack at this new laneway cocktail bar.
LB’s Record Bar has dropped the needle on Meyers Place, opening Friday 28 November with vinyl sourced from record stores across Melbourne.
Sydney hospitality group Merivale’s first Melbourne venue brings agave-focused cocktails and vinyl-only soundtracks to the CBD.
Meyers Place doesn’t need another bar, but it’s getting one anyway – and this time, it’s all about the records. LB’s Record Bar has taken over the space that once housed Lily Blacks, and while it pays respect to what came before, it’s doing its own thing. No streaming playlists, no Spotify algorithms; just vinyl pulled from record stores in Melbourne, spun by local DJs who really know what they’re doing.

Renowned Melbourne bar figures Zara and Michael Madrusan, the duo behind The Everleigh and Bar Margaux, are running the show. They’ve brought their expertise to LB’s Record Bar, focusing the drinks menu squarely on agave spirits. Highlights include a unique aerated Martini and La Bestia, which blends Altos Reposado tequila, coffee blend, mole bitters and salted cream. A South American-focused wine list rounds out the offering, alongside half-sized cocktails at $12 for those not committing to a full serve.
Spanish-style snacks by Merivale’s Melbourne-based executive chef Jowett Yu keep things simple and shareable. Tinned seafood, charcuterie, crisps, pickles and focaccia are designed for late-night grazing between drinks and deep cuts.
Music sits at the heart of LB’s Record Bar. Vinyl sets the pace here, with carefully curated records sourced from record stores Melbourne-wide and a rotating lineup of local DJs keeping the energy consistent. It’s retro without being gimmicky, designed to feel like a house party that just happens to serve excellent cocktails.
Owned and run by the Hemmes family for over 60 years, Merivale started as a fashion house before pivoting to hospitality in 1970. Now led by CEO Justin Hemmes, the Sydney-based group has grown to over 90 venues across Australia. LB’s Record Bar marks their first official move into Melbourne’s bar scene.
Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours.
