Super Flu’s genre-bending house and techno comes to Collingwood

Words by staff writer

Eat The Beat and Thick As Thieves are bringing Super Flu to New Guernica on 21 November.

The German duo of Feliks Thielemann and Mathias Schwarz have been making music together since 2005, building a reputation around melodic house and minimal techno that pulls from unexpected places.

Their production style mixes punchy percussion with samples from unconventional sources and they founded their own Monaberry label to release both their own material and tracks from like-minded producers.

The Halle-born pair draw influences from jazz rhythms through to experimental electronic music, which shows up in sets that dodge predictable patterns. Their approach to DJing leans into the playful side of club music, mixing tech house grooves with melodic detours.

Local selectors Wilma and Esteban Angel will handle warm-up duties before Super Flu takes control for the headline slot. The collaboration between Eat The Beat and Thick As Thieves brings together two promoter crews that have been running electronic music nights across Melbourne’s venues for years, focusing on underground house and techno bookings.
