Balaclava Boogie turns Carlisle Street into a two-day music crawl this November

Words by staff writer

Coffee shops, boxing gyms and barbershops across Carlisle Street are becoming live music venues this November.

The Balaclava Boogie Music Crawl hits 18 venues across 8 and 9 November, bringing indie rock, jazz, afrobeat and folk to some seriously unexpected spots. The free two-day event features Adalita, Archer, Xani, Daisy Kilbourne, Max Koenig and Charlie Lane performing in everything from cake shops to speakeasies.

The lineup spans violins in vintage interiors at Marigold, Latin grooves at Portone Pizza Mall, and acoustic sets at Savion Cakes and Bagels.

Adalita takes over The Local Taphouse for a rare intimate performance, while Xani brings electric violin experiments to Kingsman Barbers. DJ Upstairs kicks things off at both Miss Mat Cafe and UBX Boxing & Strength, spinning Afro-Congo, kompa and amapiano across the weekend.

Shows run throughout both days with staggered start times from noon through to late. Venues include Brother Wolf, Pause Bar, Ms. Carlisles, Voodoo Lovechild, Tavlin and Mondo Di Pasta.

Folk songwriter Archer opens Saturday at Brother Wolf, followed by Daisy Kilbourne’s Laurel Canyon-inspired set at Marigold Interiors. The Distasteful Microwaves bring guitar-driven indie rock to Pause Bar, while A.O. Jay Tobi delivers afrobeat and highlife at Voodoo Lovechild Speakeasy.

Max Koenig and The Saffron Quartet perform Persian folk and klezmer at Tavlin, with a second klezmer set at Savion Cakes and Bagels later in the evening.

Synthotronica’s baritone sax and cosmic funk setup hits Portone Pizza Mall, and The Bornstein Ultimatum runs through 60s and 70s classics at Pause Bar. Nina Clare showcases original songwriting at Tomi, while Charlie Lane brings indie pop to Mondo Di Pasta.

Free bookings are recommended as late arrivals may lose their spot at the free shows.
