Melbourne Fringe Festival 2025 is channelling some serious nostalgia vibes this year.

The 43-year-old arts extravaganza returns with a Heroes of the Party theme that’s equal parts childhood throwback and artistic rebellion.

Melbourne Fringe Festival 2025 kicks off with an opening night gala at the Capitol Theatre, hosted by comedy legend Sammy J. The 90-minute showcase runs the gamut from boundary-pushing performance art to electrifying live acts, with attendees encouraged to strut down the purple carpet dressed as their childhood heroes.

The real party continues with Club Fringe nights that celebrate everything from trans joy to Lady Gaga worship. HRTthrob, an all-trans boy band, delivers high-energy performances mixing Backstreet Boys vibes with clinic-core realness, while the Mother Monster night transforms venues into Planet Chromatica for the ultimate Gaga tribute experience.

For those seeking gentler vibes, Hygge offers a low-sensory wonderland featuring performances by Brendan Maclean, burlesque star Juniper Fox, and Arrernte drag royalty Stone Motherless Cold. Wiradjuri artist Joel Bray leads interactive movement pieces designed specifically for this warm and fuzzy environment.

Additional Club Fringe events include Creatures of the Night, PC1 Divas, 3 Minutes to Save the World, and Open House, each offering unique celebrations of creativity and artistic expression. The festival wraps with an awards ceremony recognising the year’s standout performers and risk-takers.
