Australian funk rock legends Skunkhour are hitting the road this October and November to celebrate three decades.
Up to Our Necks in It (For 30 Years) tour marks 30 years since the release of one of Australia’s most iconic singles. Skunkhour’s 1995 smash hit cemented their cult sonic alchemy that catapulted them from local scene darlings into international infamy, and now they’re bringing that infectious energy back to stages across the country.
Starting life in the early 90s during the rise of grunge, rave culture and hip hop, Skunkhour created something entirely unique. Their thunderous rhythms, trail-blazing rapping, brass sections and genre-blending approach saw them gain cult status that spread like wildfire. Whether wowing mainstage festivals, performing alongside INXS and Beastie Boys, or commanding their own headline shows, this sonic love child of hip hop, acid jazz, alt rock and funk found its perfect home in Skunkhour’s creative DNA.

Up to Our Necks in It was something special from day one. Opening with melancholic instrumentation before swelling into a swooning, soulful affair, the track embraced rapped spoken-word verses balanced alongside soaring melodies and rousing arrangements. Taken from their sophomore album Feed, which peaked at #21 on the ARIA Charts, the single also featured on triple j’s Hottest 100 and helped seal their deal with Acid Jazz records in the UK.
Like many long-running acts, Skunkhour have been through their trials and tribulations over the decades, with members pursuing side projects and careers in other fields. When they reformed around 2010, they brought in legendary keyboardist Al Goodman, and in 2022 added drummer Carlos Adura, who’s played with The Strides, Tim Finn and The Beautiful Girls. Both additions have rejuvenated the spirit and brought back a heavier emphasis on the soul funk groove side of their sound.
Fans can expect plenty of energy and good vibes on this anniversary tour, with an emphasis on the more well-known, dynamic funky side of their catalogue, sprinkled with reworks, personal favourites, and recent releases from the past couple of years.
