Junction Arts Festival will premiere towering inflatable sculptures as part of its 15th anniversary celebrations.
The Launceston festival has secured the Tasmanian premiere of Airship Orchestra by internationally renowned art and technology studio ENESS for its expanded September program. The immersive installation features 16 inflatable figures, some reaching six metres tall, spanning 500 square metres to create a world of volumetric sound, pulsing light and interactive experiences.
Created by artist Nimrod Weis and his ENESS studio, Airship Orchestra represents a fusion of sculpture, design, software, music, textiles and storytelling. The galactic beings include generative scores composed for multi-person choirs, blinking LED eyes and atmospheric experiences designed for both day and night encounters.

ENESS specialises in interactive new media art and was founded in 1997, building a reputation for large-scale installations that blend technology with artistic expression. The studio’s work typically encourages audience participation, making Airship Orchestra an ideal fit for Junction Arts Festival’s community-focused approach.
The installation will form part of Junction Arts Festival’s first-ever two-weekend celebration, running from 12-21 September to mark the milestone anniversary. Airship Orchestra will be active across both weekends, creating a consistent centrepiece for the expanded program that features over 40 distinct events ranging from circus cabaret to literature masterclasses.
The opening weekend kicks off with An Extravagant Affair, a formal opening night party on 12 September complete with red carpet celebrations. Community-focused events include the Junction Retrospective 15 Year Gallery, showcasing the festival’s history, and the beloved Great Junction Dog Show returning for the anniversary celebrations.
Musical programming spans both weekends with dedicated music nights featuring local and interstate acts. Thursday 18 September showcases Maddy Jane, Racoon Dog and Glass Media, while Friday 19 September presents Medhanit and FFLORA x Grace Chia. The weekend concludes with The Embers and Woolton on Sunday 21 September.
