New Bloom Fest
Words by Staff Writer

After a successful debut in 2024, New Bloom Fest returns in 2025, promising a dynamic showcase of alt rock, post-hardcore, grunge, and punk.

This year’s lineup is headlined by British rockers Basement, with Balance and Composure, Drain, One Step Closer, Sweet Pill, and Glitterer joining the stage across Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Following a sold-out Melbourne show last year, New Bloom Fest 2025 is set to bring another unforgettable experience, spotlighting the next generation of talent in the hardcore and alternative scenes. The festival will not only feature these international heavyweights but also promises a second announcement of Australian acts joining each city’s lineup, further celebrating the global alt-rock resurgence.

New Bloom Fest 2025 dates

  • Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane – Saturday, 8 March (18+)
  • Roundhouse, Sydney – Sunday, 9 March (18+)
  • The Timberyard, Melbourne – Monday, 10 March (public holiday) (18+)

New Bloom Fest 2025 lineup highlights

  • Basement: UK-based Basement will bring their distinct 90s emo and grunge-infused soundscapes, performing their fan favourites such as Covet, Are You The One, and Whole. With millions of streams and a history of sold-out venues, Basement continues to resonate deeply with fans worldwide.
  • Balance and Composure: Known for their mix of grit and melodic introspection, Balance and Composure recently returned with their fourth album, With You In Spirit, produced by Will Yip. The Pennsylvania band has built a loyal following, having previously toured with acts like Thrice and Circa Survive.
  • Drain: California’s hardcore group Drain will bring their unique West Coast vibes, a blend of thrash and hardcore chaos. Known for their live antics—complete with boogie boards and pool noodles—Drain’s high-energy shows promise a thrilling experience.
  • One Step Closer: This Pennsylvania group has carved a space in the hardcore world with their blend of post-hardcore and shoegaze. Returning to Australia after a successful debut in 2023, they continue to captivate audiences with tracks from their recent album, All You Embrace.
  • Sweet Pill: Bringing a fresh, pop-tinged emo sound from Philadelphia, Sweet Pill have gained attention with tracks like High Hopes. Following their 2022 debut album, Where the Heart Is, they’ll be making their Australian debut at New Bloom Fest.
  • Glitterer: Formed by musician Ned Russin, Glitterer combines grunge, synths, and woozy vocals into a unique blend that defies genre boundaries. With hits like Are You Sure? and The Race, they bring a modern yet vintage appeal to the stage.
