BIGSOUND reveals its full special events schedule for 2024

BIGSOUND
Words by Staff Writer

BIGSOUND, Queensland’s esteemed music celebration, is thrilled to reveal its full special events schedule for 2024.

Many people’s favourite part of Australia’s largest music industry gathering are the events where tomorrow’s networks, relationships, and collaborations are built. These essential brunches, lunches, parties, mixers, and meetups provide a relaxed environment where like-minded professionals can gather, share their knowledge, and forge strong relationships to develop the best possible future for Australian music.

QMusic and BIGSOUND CEO Kris Stewart says, “Personally, my favourite part of the BIGSOUND experience is the networking opportunities every attendee has as part of the Special Events program.  Here is where business is done, and relationships are built – where people are discovering their future collaborators and friends.”

BIGSOUND goes global

For the very first time in 2024, BIGSOUND goes global with vibrant showcase performances at International House, located inside the newly updated Marquee Bar. This dynamic series will feature an eclectic mix of showcases featuring acts from around the globe, including Taiwan Beats, where Taiwanese artists will prove exactly why they’re leading the way in pop music; theSplitworks ASIA Takeover, which features a huge lineup of talent from China, Malaysia, Japan and Korea; and the Manitoba Music Showcase, where our Indigenous Canadian friends will perform and solidify Goolwal Goolwal, BIGSOUND’s First Nation led program, as one of the greatest global gatherings of First Nations musicians.

BIGSOUND daytime events

For those attending BIGSOUND, there are plenty of daytime events to enrich the experience between meetings and networking sessions. These include the ASIA Pop Breakfast, where delegates can celebrate the release of Live Nation’s Asia Pop Live Report; the BEDA Country Lunchtime Show which will take over the JBL Live at BIGSOUND Stage in the Brunswick Street Mall, lunches to discuss new tech and Music Precincts and Destinations; and the JMC Academy Showcase, where visitors can witness performances from the future of the industry.

Delegates and artists can head to the Pig ‘N’ Whistle to learn more about Exploring TikTok for Artists and music discovery with special sessions featuring internationally recognised music curator Derrick Gee.

And who wouldn’t want to experience Brisbane’s most iconic feature while they’re here? The Brisbane River, that is. The BIGSOUND Sunset Cruise, presented by Untitled Group, punters will enjoy music, nibbles and vibes against the backdrop of a stunning sunset, to toast the start of another great year.

BIGSOUND partner showcase parties

BIGSOUND’s sparkling atmosphere will be further enriched by an array of partner showcase parties sprinkled throughout the event’s three-day program. Attendees are invited to celebrate and experience performances from Australia and New Zealand’s most talked-about and upcoming artists, at the exciting events, which will include:

The ACCLAIM Showcase Party, where you can discover the latest in cutting-edge music from some of the most promising names in the hip hop and RnB scene.

The Unified BIGSOUND Showcase, a must-attend event featuring an impressive lineup of artists and a special acoustic set from Stand Atlantic at the Prince Consort’s Garden Stage.

The NZ Showcase Party, a celebration of New Zealand’s finest musical talent, and showcasing the best of Kiwi music.

Live Nation’s Ones To Watch, a discovery platform (and party!) globally recognised for progressing the careers of Dua Lipa, Lewis Capaldi, Halsey, and many more.

Sailor Jerry Presents: Jerry Can And A Van, an immersive experience at Ric’s Backyard, combining great music from The Belair Lip Bombs + Hoon + Mac The Knife + Private Wives + Sonic Reducer with Sailor Jerry’s distinctive spirit.

The Oztix Showcase Party, an infamous Oztix BIGSOUND Party with an absolutely stacked lineup featuring The Belair Lip Bombs, Park Rd, and heaps more.

Finally, we have the BIGSOUND Closing Party. Fast becoming a BIGSOUND institution, the closing party is the place to celebrate and reminisce about the greatest midweek marathon of live music. Stay tuned for special guest DJ’s, with the Official BIGSOUND Closing Party open to all Artists, Delegates, and three-day showcase ticket holders (pending capacity).

BIGSOUND’s creative affiliates and activations

The Southern Hemisphere’s premier music showcase and conference event wouldn’t be what it is today without its partners-in-crime. So, this year, BIGSOUND will host several special activations in collaboration with its creative affiliates, including the Sailor Jerry’s Tattoo Parlour, where punters can embrace their rock ‘n’ roll spirit at their pop-up tattoo parlour at Suzi Wongs, offering festival goers a chance to get inked (for free!) with flash designs; and the Archie Rose Pop Up Stage, featuring live performances celebrating the intersection of music and a good time.

Acknowledging that the best business is done over a coffee, Tixel Shouts will give delegates the opportunity to visit Fortitude Valley’s best coffee shops for a free coffee.

BIGSOUND 2024 is set to be an extraordinary celebration of music and industry innovation, this year more than ever. With an exceptional lineup of parties, gatherings, performances, workshops, and panels, BIGSOUND promises to be a completely immersive experience for all attendees.
