The exhibition will run at ACMI between July 16 to November 1 as part of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series.
The seminar, The Stardom and Celebrity of David Bowie 1965-2015, will be held on July 17 and 18 at ACMI with talks and presentations. It is organised by Angela Ndalianis, Professor in Screen Studies at Melbourne University, and Deakin University Associate Professor in media and communication Sean Redmond who is also editor of Celebrity Studies.
Late last year the conference asked for academic papers on Bowie or proposals “for performances or creative expressions that assess Bowie in relation to his music, performativity, and identity.”
It is set to cover Bowie’s shoes, costumes, hair and makeup, eyes, sexuality, film, art, alter egos, religion, photography, androgyny, theatre, lyrics, parody, scandal, madness and drugs. It will also look at the way Bowie has been marketed, through commercial ventures, ads, corporate image, fandom and media profile.
