The owners behind the beloved Melbourne venue are selling its business.
Revered Melbourne live music venue, The Gasometer Hotel, is up for leasehold and has been attracting a large amount of interest despite the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus.
The venue, located on the corner of Smith Street and Alexandra Parade in Collingwood, is one of Melbourne’s most unique venues. It’s home to its own retractable roof that opens up over the main bandroom, while the venue is conveniently segmented into three main sections, with the main bandroom separated from the front bar and pub area. There’s then The Gaso upstairs, which sees punters snake up a stairwell into a room that’s welcomed plenty of stellar gigs in its time.
Speaking to CRE Brokers’ Lloyd Nunn, the representative behind the listing, The Music report that the current turmoil hasn’t affected the property’s popularity.
“People are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and are planning for the future,” Nunn said. “The Gasometer Hotel as you are probably aware is a fantastic live music venue and all those that have shown real interest in the place seem to have the aim of continuing it as such. Of course, I cannot guarantee that would be the case but such a purpose-built set up lends it to not much else.
“Bands and bookings are just on hold and everyone is itching to get back into the venue again,” he continued. “We just have to now wait to see when and how the restrictions are lifted and that will determine the relaunch of live music at the venue.”
While The Gaso has established itself as one of Melbourne’s premier mid-size music venues, it has also welcomed some big names into its space such as Jet, The Saints, Kimbra, Marlon Williams while also proving versatile, hosting the long-running Daydreams house party that goes down on Sundays during summer.
