9 weird or wonderful international gigs coming to Melbourne in 2022

Melbourne gigs Arlo Parks
Words by Benjamin Lamb

2022 still could be a bloody good year for international acts in Melbourne, if these nine global stars (and awesome wannabes) come through.

It seems like it’s been too long since we’ve had some international performers grace our shores, but with borders continuing to open up despite Omicron, many international performers have locked in Melbourne gigs so they can tour all their lockdown albums.

At the time of writing, these shows are still set to happen, but with changing rules daily, these things could change. Still, with heaps of amazing events still going down around the city every day, here’s a look at what’s set to happen in Melbourne this year.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Snoop Dogg

Whether you know him as Snoop Lion, Snoop Doggy Dogg, or just Snoop Dogg, Calvin Broadus Jr will be coming to Melbourne later this year to bring his smooth bars to our ears.

Called the ‘I Wanna Thank Me’ tour, (named after his latest album) it’ll see him hit the Rod Laver Stage for a show this October.

His music has delighted fans across the world since 1992, with tracks like ‘Drop It Like Its Hot’ and ‘Gin and Juice’ as well as his features on tracks from artists like Katy Perry, De La Soul, and even our very own Jessica Mauboy.

Plenty of tickets still remain, which you can grab here.

Creed Bratton

Yes, that Creed Bratton from The Office is touring Melbourne in September. It’s a tour that’s been postponed a number of times, so hopefully this one can still go ahead.

The star, whose actual name is the same as the popular character, will bring a night of music and comedy to the Corner Hotel stage this September.

Besides his starring role in The Office and shows like Grace and Frankie, Creed is an accomplished musician, so you know you’ll be a seeing a performer at the top of his craft.

Tickets are on sale here and are only around $50!

Mac Sabbath

It doesn’t get more niche than this.

Mac Sabbath, as the name suggests, amalgamates fast food and the music of legendary metal pioneers Black Sabbath. They’ve even found a fan in the Sabbath frontman himself, saying that they are “funny as fuck” in true Ozzy fashion. Each member also has a great metal/fast food themed nickname; like Ronald Osbourne and Slayer MacCheeze.

They will be making their way to Melbourne this December, playing the Northcote Social Club. This’ll mark their first visit to Aus, so make them feel welcome by grabbing tickets here.

Benee

New Zealand star Benee has quickly taken the world by storm, appearing on talk shows like Ellen and Fallon, and her music hitting the top 10 charts in all spots across the globe. Her music has been critically acclaimed for its unique mix of grooves, pop and electronica.

She’ll be making her way to Australia for a show at the iconic Sidney Myer Music bowl,  – and it’s soon too! Only happening in March.

There’s still a bunch of tickets available too, you can grab them here.

Steel Panther

Everyone’s favourite cheeky glam metallers love an Aussie tour – touring here in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2018, so they’re long overdue for a return.

When you put aside their innuendos, costumes and expletive ridden song names, they are definitely some of the most talented musicians in the world, and have the credentials to show, with guitarist Satchel having been taught by legendary virtuoso Paul Gilbert.

This show is a first of its kind though, it’ll be the first time they’ve hit Aussie shores since long time bassist Lexxi Foxx left the band back in 2021. Grab your tickets here.

John 5

Continuing on the metal take, guitarist John 5, who is most known for previously working with Rob Zombie and former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, is heading to our shores, playing in Melbourne at The Prince.

This is yet another long-time postponed tour, in the last few days it moving to late in December.

His instrumental guitar work is some of the most unique, his solos will pull you in and you’re bound to find your new favourite. Grab your tickets here.

Cory Henry

Perhaps best known for his work in virtuosic funk ensemble Snarky Puppy, the keyboardist has a successful solo career of his own, with multiple hit albums with his group the Funk Apostles.

He’s set to also play at Bluesfest, alongside international performers like George Benson, The Wailers, The Marcus King Band, and many more. It’ll be happening at 170 Russell, book in tickets here.

Arlo Parks

Arlo Parks has quickly become on the biggest singers in the world; her debut released Collapsed in Sunbeams being released to immediate critical acclaim.

The 21-year-old has won AIM Awards, BRIT Awards, Mercury Prizes, and has been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, so it’s clear she’s becoming one of the world’s best performers.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish has quickly become one of the world’s most iconic performers, her music often reaching the top spot in charts across the world, it often being lauded for its unique genre bending and messaging, it sounding like someone with decades of experience.

After the release of her universally popular album Happier Than Ever, she’s set to come down under this September with a string of shows at Rod Laver Arena.

This marks her fourth journey to Australia, come a long way since her 2015 show at the Toff in Town, playing Rod Laver Arena on 22, 23, 24, 26 of September. Keep an eye out for tickets here.

She’ll make her Australian debut later this year at 170 Russell, grab your tickets here.
