Define your genre in five words or less:

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?
Hungry Kids of Hungary write too many good songs – they’re making us look bad. Exterminate.
So, someone is walking past as you guys are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?
“Top of the morning to you friend. I just happened across a sterling young group of lads playing the rock music! Toe-tappingly good tunes – I dare say I was inclined to stay and let my hair down, so to speak! However I felt the need to come here to whet my whistle and tell you all about it. I suggest we go and ‘check them out’ some more.”
What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?
I think Quan from Regurgitator says it best when describing how he got where he is. I’m pretty sure he was talking about social media in that song.
When are you doing your thing next?
We’re super pumped to be hitting Ding Dong Friday November 9 to showcase some of the new tunes we’ve just recorded as well as touching on some material from our first record ‘Reactions’. Don’t be put off if there is a teleprompter on stage karaoke style that has the the lyrics to the new material a la our new video for ‘You Don’t Know What You’re Missin’.
What part of making music excites you the most?
I love that moment very early on when you know you’re onto something good and there’s a thousand directions you can take it. During demoing songs I get to experiment with all sorts of new sounds and instruments. The choice these days can be a bit overwhelming but I guess that’s all part of the challenge that I enjoy.
Tell us about the last song you wrote.
The last song i wrote was actually our new single (You Don’t Know What You’re Missin’). It came about when I remember back to a gig last year in Sydney. Adam and I went out in search of a kebab after packing up – I think we were on Oxford Street when this transgender lady of the night invited us over. Since she wasn’t selling kebabs we were on our way, but not before she said “honey, you don’t know what you’re missin’!” We laughed it off, but it stuck with me. I try and remind myself of that phrase every time a new experience presents itself.
What makes a good musician?
Mental illness.
What advice would you give to bands that are new on the Melbourne music scene?
I can only speak from experience and that is that I’ve always stayed true to my taste in music and surrounded myself with band members who are also my best mates! Above all, make good music that you can shamelessly put on at parties even though everyone is already happily dancing to Jackson 5.
