Can you tell us about what kind of music you perform?
I play in the realm of indie folk, with a few quirks thrown in. The music has pop-infused melodies, and quirky, conversational lyrics on a sparse folk canvas.
You’ve been performing music for practically your whole life. Can you tell us about some of the projects you’ve been involved with?
I grew up in a folk family band called the Wise Family Band. We toured nationally and internationally in the folk festival circuits. My father built the instruments and my mum taught us girls to play them. Since moving to Melbourne I played in the ‘60s folk revival band Stray Hens, fronted by three chicks with tiny instruments.
What are some of the more appealing aspects of your current solo project?
I’m thrilled to have just released the single Then We Met from my upcoming album, with a national single launch tour booked in for mid-April. For most of the shows I’ll be joined by my new trio band – Zac Barter (Canary) on double bass and Finn Bennet (Officer Parrot) on accordion and uke. The debut album is set to release around August this year after I finished recording it with the prodigious Nick Huggins (Two Bright Lakes, A Pocket Full of Stones). In the last year and half, it’s been such a fun hands-on project made possible by a highly successful Pozible crowd-funding campaign, as well as so many incredibly skilled musician friends and family.
