So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?
Language Of The Birds. Rhi [vox and acoustic guitar] James [vox acoustic guitar, electric guitar], Jim [drums], Cal [bass/double bass]. We’re a folk rock band.
Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?
Rhi: Midlake, Middle East, Swell Season. A lighting guy once describes us as “that moody band”.
What do you love about making music?
Cal: Connecting with people, bringing people together.
What do you hate about the music industry?
Jim: The disposable nature of pop music. When a producer engineers something to last two weeks.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?
James: Nick Drake, because the feeling I get when I hear his music is similar to the feeling I try to create, so I think he would dig it.
If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?
Rhi: Short Stack, they’ve gone wrong.
What can a punter expect from your live show?
Jim: You can expect music with the drums and bass with guitar and with an extra guitar and nice harmonies and an electric guitar and together they sound very nice with also a double bass.
What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?
We’re releasing our debut self-titled EP next month.
When’s the gig and with who?
Our EP launch is on Friday October 14 at the Wesley Anne. We’re playing with two awesome local bands Canos and Loki.
