Define your genre in five words or less:
Folk/pop/indie.
Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?
Some people have told me I sound like Cat Power or Feist.
So, someone is walking past as you are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you..what do they say?
“Did you hear that music playing? I think we should go sit and listen.”
What do you think an artist has to do these days to succeed?
I think artists need to network with other artists in the music community. That might be showing up to other gigs and showing support, collaborating with other artists and being part of a music community.
Do you have any record releases to date? What are they? Where can I get them?
I’ve got an album called The Travel Tree and it’s available on Bandcamp and iTunes. I’ve also got some EPs available as well.
When are you playing live/releasing your album?
I’m releasing a single from the album called Charlie on Saturday November 9 at the Wesley Anne.
Why should everyone come and see your show?
They should come and see it because it’s going to be performed with French horn, cello, acoustic guitars and ethereal vocals.
What part of making music excites you the most?
The part that excites me most, is when I have written some new material and we play through it at band rehearsals. There is something magic that happens when other members of the band start adding layers and the song comes to life.
What’s the strangest place you’ve ever played a gig, or made a recording?
I played this strange gig in Montreal, Canada. It was in a weird little back alley venue and they made me use a microphone taped to a broom handle and then to a chair- a make shift mic stand.
What’s your favourite song, and why?
Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion by Oliver Tank. This song oozes emotion and the strings are so lush.
How do you balance making and playing music with your other commitments?
I really struggle with this, as I work full time and I also write music for film and TV. It can be really hard to have a grasp on all of it at any one time. I try and prioritise my original music but it’s always a balancing act.
