60 Seconds With…Dylanesque

Who are we speaking to and what do you do in DYLANesque?

Jeff Jenkins here – I wrote the show DYLANesque, and sing, play guitar, harmonica and change costumes five times.

What does DYLANesque offer Bob Dylan fans?

For old fans it’s a massive nostalgia trip, where all kinds of memories come flooding back from the good times of the ’60s and ’70s. For new fans it’s the best introduction to the music of arguably one of the greatest singer songwriters of our generation.

You’re covering 30 of Dylan’s best songs. How did you decide the setlist?

With a catalogue of 400+ songs it was a nightmare. It was hard enough to get the band to agree.

Have you ever seen Bob Dylan live?

I saw him at Rod Laver Arena. I’d been warned by other Dylan fans that seeing him live can be one of the greatest experiences or one of the worst. They were right. Dylan has been performing for 50 years, which is extraordinary, and has polarised audiences. We build that unrest into the show – it’s part of the journey.

What’s the general crowd response?

When’s the next show?” This is the first question people ask when we come out. Some fans are shocked that a song they’ve loved for years is a Dylan song, others comment on how much they love the stories about his life.
