Who are we talking to and what do you do in Dream Architecture?
Ash – Vox/Guitar
You’ve recently released your debut self titled EP, do you guys have a general ethos for constructing music that guided you through the EP’s creation?
For us, this project was always about creating an honest, colourful selection of soundscapes. Something I’ve always tried to do is emphasise contrast between light-dark, heavy-soft, happy-sad etc. We’ve tried to do that across arrangements, melodies, and tonally (mixing). It’s a five-course meal with a twist.
How’s the response been for the EP after the release? What are people in the Australian progressive rock scene saying about it?
We’ve had a few reviews. Interestingly, each reviewer so far has had a different favourite track. A common thread in the feedback was that it covers a lot of ground stylistically. One reviewer referred to the record as “a less aggressive take on post-prog rock, but still managed to keep things interesting and fresh”. I guess what might separate Dream Architecture from others in this genre are the more spacey, ambient flavours.
Have you got plans for a launch show?
Writing and recording this EP for the past two years has been Dream Architecture’s existence to date. (We do things at a leisurely pace around here… Having said that we’re still quicker than Karnivool.) We had way more layers and instruments on the record than the three of us can handle live, so we are currently in prep for a full band lineup and have potential live shows on the horizon. We have our sights set for early 2017. Coming soon to a dive-bar near you.
Where can people nab a copy of the EP?
Itunes and Bandcamp.
