60 Seconds With… Charge Group

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

Charge Group is the band. I’m the singer/guitarist guy.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like?

A guy in Europe wrote, “A transcendental bastard blend of Fugazi, the Dirty Three and Nick Drake.” Simultaneously confusing and flattering, but not too far off the mark.

What do you love about making music?

It’s the most honest, impulsive and direct way I know to transmit ideas. And it’s fun as hell.

What do you hate about the music industry?

Approximately 90% of it. And just about every music festival except Meredith.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

My best friend from high school who died in a car wreck 10 years ago. Barely had a musical bone in his body, but he introduced me to Velvet Underground.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

The guy who invented Autotune.

What can a punter expect from your live show?

Spandex, pyrotechnics and catwalk ramps. Hang on, wrong band. Loud cinematic rock music with a guitar, violin, bass and drum set.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

‘Run/The Gold is Gone’ – our brand-new double-A-side EP thingy, featuring a bunch of remixes from Kim Presets, Seaworthy and more.

When’s the gig and with who?

Friday September 30 at Gasometer, Collingwood. With Great Earthquake and Near Myth.
