Quickly tell us how your band started.

Verticoli got together when I (Sam – singer / guitarist) had some original material I’d put together, and needed a band to play it with. I am lucky enough to have a brother (James Hunn) who is a weapon of a bass player, so that was sorted. We then recruited an old school mate, Will Colvin, and the band was formed. From then on it became more of a collaborative thing. James has now moved away to Sydney to work, so we have the equally dangerous Carlos Pashev on bass now. We are also lucky enough to have a second guitarist these days, in the form of Will Scutt from Tassie’s best band, Rhino. We’re putting out an LP this year called Punching Bag, that’s pretty exciting.

What do you tell a stranger that your band sounds like?

Hello stranger. We sound like your next favourite band, or your least favourite band. We like big drum grooves, dirty bass tones and heavy riffs, and I just sing the best that I can. I guess we’re a guitar rock band. We think its fun.

Tell us a bit about what is planned for your set at RocknRolla?

Our set at RocknRolla will consist of a good chunk of the songs that will feature on our debut LP. We sometimes throw a cheesy cover of a classic rock ballad into our song DFA. It’s an old gag in Hobart but maybe Melbourne is a good place to bring it back.

VERTICOLI will be playing RocknRolla, sponsored by Sailor Jerry’s on Friday May 8 and will be joined by MIGHTY BOYS, KILL DIRTY YOUTH, and DUMB PUNTS.
