The play is based in the idea that ‘when one person opts for revenge they dig two graves’, opening with a conversation between a man and a woman before jumping on a roller coaster of emotions, murder, love, revenge and betrayal. Throughout, Purgatorio explores some of our most secret fears about forgiveness, reconciliation, repentance and salvation.
Purgatorio had its Spanish language premiere in 2011 and is a work by Ariel Dorfman. The Chillien playwright is best known for his 1990 work Death and the Maiden, which was later turned into a film by Roman Polanski.
